Faculty of Physics was established in 1978 and it is currently considered to be the leading Physics Department in South Ural. The Faculty implements an international two-tier educational system.

Faculty of Physics preoccupies a dominant position among grantees. Five best students' projects within the framework of "U.M.N.I.K." program have won 2 million rubles of federal funding from the Foundation for Enterprise Development in Science and Technology of Russian Federation. Each year, students of the Physics Faculty get awards and grants of vice governor of Chelyabinsk Region, Legislative Assembly of Chelyabinsk Region, Chelyabinsk-city mayor, Dynasty Foundation and many others grant-making organizations. Faculty is one of two major partners of Interacademic Medico-physical center, which is basically specializes in the development and implementation of effective laser medical technologies into clinical practice. Students who take part in research activities get a promising and highly demanded specialization in medical physics. Obviously, future belongs to high technologies and innovations. The Russian government allocates unprecedented funds for the development of this area.
