Voluntary health insurance
According to the Russian legislation, since 2016 every foreign citizen must purchase a voluntary health insurance certificate upon arrival in Russia in order to stay in its territory legally. The minimum insurance coverage should be 100,000 rubles.
First medical aid in case of an accident, injury, intoxication and other conditions is provided by the staff of state medical institutions.
In situations of extreme urgency, doctors bring a patient to a stable condition. Further medical assistance is possible only against the presentation of a health insurance certificate or payment for the services.
While there is no health insurance certificate, all medical services should be paid for.
Upon arrival in the Russian Federation, a foreigner must purchase a health insurance certificate covering minimum medical services including ambulatory and institutional care, hospitalization and transportation valid in healthcare institutions and hospitals which are close to the university or student's place of residence.
If a foreigner has health insurance, the medical services are provided in accordance with the insurance program and should not be paid for. Documents to be presented are a passport and a health insurance certificate.
CSU International Office provides assistance to foreigners to get a health insurance certificate. It can also be bought in any insurance company.
The cost of the health insurance certificate depends on the scope of the services, insurance coverage and its duration (from 3 to 12 months).
Approximate cost of the health insurance certificate for one year is:
- for foreigners who do not need a visa: 2100 – 3700 rubles;
- for foreigners who need a visa: 3900 – 5500 rubles.
The only document required to buy a health insurance certificate is a passport.
