August 3rd to 17th, CSU. Summer school "Im Schnittbereich Europas und Asiens" was held by Chelyabinsk State University together with DAAD.
German students of archaeological, ethnographic and historical majors came to South Ural in order to familiarize themselves with the Russian culture, to study Russian language and also the history of the South Ural peoples. Such school was held here for the first time. (Video)
In autumn 2009 the International Cooperation Department of Chelyabinsk State University applied for the German Service of Academic Exchange (DAAD) grant to the organization of this school. The represented programme and the school topic interested the German Service and consequently received the grant for its organization. In addition, six students from different German universities got DAAD scholarship for the participation in this school. Uly Wagner, Christine Kugler, Maria Keller, Juliane Gierach, Regina Uhl and Barbara Bernsmeier – future German historians, ethnographers and archaeologists - were taught Russian language as foreign by professors of the German language department for one week, and the second week they spent in Arkaim, listening to the lectures on archaeology, history and culture of South Ural peoples of Prof. Gennadiy Zdanovic and other professors from History Department of CSU. As a result of the Summer School, present educational programs were reckoned for German studies as studied in their universities.
The program of the Summer School included not only lectures, but also a large amount of historical and culturological tours. The students called on the Local History Museum, Regional Art Museum, Art Gallery, Exhibition Hall of the Artists Union, Modern Art Laboratory, visited Satka, Zlatoust, Miass, Ilmensky National Park. Each day ended by a theme party, for instance, a night of Russian folk song or a night of Russian cuisine, which allowed the students to fully plunge into the atmosphere of natively Russian culture.
While being on the Arkaim the students visited the prehistoric town, neighbouring memorials and excavations which are held this summer by the students of History Department of CSU. Meanwhile they lived in a tourist camp “Legion”. In the time spare from the tours there were a cuctural programme arranged in the same place, each day of which was dedicated to one of the historical periods. As a result during 7 days they ‘lived’ 7 historical epochs. (Video)
